Carthusia
The unequalled atmosphere of Capri is encapsulated in a legendary, unique, and exclusive perfume. It talks about the island, its people, its houses and its architecture soaring high up on the rock. Among the greenery, flowers, citrus trees and fragrances of the Mediterranean. History borders on legend…. It was 1380, when Capri’s first perfume was created within the walls of the San Giacomo charterhouse: Garofilum Silvestre Caprese. A fragrance in which the water, and the island’s most beautiful flowers met almost by chance. It was from this alchemy, dedicated to the sovereign Giovanna d’Angiò, that Carthusia originated in 1948. Legend has it that, on finding the old perfume formulas, the prior of the charterhouse, revealed them, on the pope’s license, to a Piemontese chemist, who reproduced them, creating on Capri the world’s smallest perfume laboratory, which exists to this day. Nothing has changed today: the work methods, the quality of the raw materials, and the passion with which every perfume is individually prepared and packaged by hand.
